Schlossplatz 1 at ESMT Berlin is located in the historic, political, and scientific heart of the city. Previously the state council building of the East German government, the building’s nearly 5,000 square meters event space now welcome meetings and events for groups of all sizes.
The former GDR map room, is used for exclusive events and seminars for up to 50 guests. From 1999 to 2001, when the building served as the Federal Chancellery, this room was the office of the former German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.
According to legend, the small windowless room leading to the forum was specifically built to prevent conversations from being secretly recorded by foreign spies. The walls feature goatskin-leather-covered wooden tiles that are decorated with gilded doves of peace.
